My work is mostly about ‘self’, not necessarily ‘myself’ and my prints often involve or are inspired by the colours and textures of the Welsh landscape. I have a strong spiritual connection with Wales and spend a lot of my time in the hills of mid-Wales. The air is very clear there and the colours vibrant, almost blinding when the sun shines. Colour is important to me but I always begin a piece of work promising myself that I won’t be seduced by colour. Somehow colour always wins and I have to resign myself to that.
Screenprint is a wonderful process that allows me to create layers of colour and texture using photographic images, paper stencils, drawings, photocopies and anything else that can be safely put on an exposure unit.
I always carry my camera with me; it is my sketchbook.
