Janet Sang ARE

Janet Sang is an artist based in Brighton, where she makes prints at Volcanic Editions. She is a member of the Printmakers Council and an Associate member of the RE. In 2025 she was shortlisted for the Flourish Award for excellence in printmaking.

Janet’s many-layered screenprints combine imagery from hand-drawn, photographic and digitally mediated sources, and she enjoys the scope the medium offers for putting together the unexpected and for revealing systems of representation. Recently she has been extending her range by combining photopolymer etching with screenprinting within a single composition. In her monoprints she has developed a technique of combining etched imagery with painting on the plate, which enables her to respond more immediately to current issues and events. Overall she thinks of her work as constructing allegorical settings which invite engagement with the structures underlying social, political and economic injustices.
