Janet Sang is an artist based in Brighton, where she makes prints at Volcanic Editions. She is a member of the Printmakers Council and an Associate member of the RE. Her screenprints are complex and many-layered, often having more than twenty layers of ink. In them she combines imagery from hand-drawn, photographic and digitally-mediated sources, and enjoys the scope the medium offers for putting together the unexpected and for revealing systems of representation. Her recent compositions create allegorical settings which invite a multi-faceted engagement with housing inequalities, attitudes to work and unemployment, the treatment of migrants and to the economic structures underlying social injustice.
