Sandra Daniel

Sandra Daniel creates powerful monotype prints that look past literal representation to question the nature of good, evil, and modern corruption.

Her bold, determined series, A Garden of Gethsemane, is about a biblical landscape of betrayal, agony, and impending suffering. Influenced by literary scholars, the work centres on a quote from The Master & Margarita, where the devil asks: “What would your good do if evil didn’t exist, & what would the earth look like if shadows disappeared?” Intersecting strong contrasts of light and dark, Daniel works into an inked matrix surface. Using a rag to manipulate tone, shadows, and light, she creates an interesting edge as opposed to a line.

Featuring a universal, stylised flower form, the strong compositions shift between flat and three-dimensional spaces to critique modern horror and systemic greed.
