Sumi Perera is a post-disciplinary academic, curator, artist who obtained a MA from Camberwell College, University of Arts London in 2003-04. She has taught at Middlesex University on the MA Printmaking course and the Royal Academy\u2019s short courses program.<\/p>\n

She exhibits internationally and has held many artist residencies in Venice, Italy (2017); at Pierre Presse a lithography studio in Marcilhac, France (2017); in The Artists\u2019 Village in Yinchuan China (2019) and a teaching residency at CAFA (Central Academy of Fine Art) Beijing in 2007; and Mercers\u2019 Hall, London (2016).<\/p>\n

She has won many awards internationally: Gold Medal in Seoul, The Prix de Print USA, The Flourish Award, Scuola Venice Guest Artist Fellowship; The Birgit Skiold prize at the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) London; many awards at the Society of Bookbinders Conference; The SCU Artistbook Award in Australia; The Laurence King Publishers Prize 2016. She has been shortlisted for the Ruskin Prize 2017; The Art Gemini Prize 2017; Dentons Art Prize 2022 & 2023; the Neo:Print Prize 2016 etc.<\/p>\n

Perera was invited to be a judge for the Women in Art Prize 2023 and 2024; The Art Gemini Prize 2024, The WYPW Flourish Award \u2013 Excellence in Printmaking 2019, and the New Designers Show at the BDC for the Society of Designer Craftsmen 2025.<\/p>\n

Her work is held in many public and private collections, including the Tate Britain, Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum, Royal Collection, British Library, Ashmolean Museum, Yale Centre for British Art USA; & museums in China, Japan, Italy, Denmark, Iraq, Egypt, Taiwan, USA & Australia. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Painters Printmakers, Society Of Designer Craftsmen, Society of Graphic Fine Artists, The 62 Group of Textile Artists and The London Group.<\/p>\n
