With architecture as the prime protagonist, Zoltan’s practice investigates the phenomena of empty moments/empty places. His method is to examine the space to be envisioned as mental images with impending diffusion and the composition fading from consciousness, which increases a sense of the dramatic.
Employing photography as tool for the primary material, Zoltan’s objective is to create a sensation of vacancy with a suspension of time. This in turn, creates the moment of the uncanny together with an eerie atmosphere which he explores through his research on the psychology of the cinematic image as material for the visual composition.
Zoltan applies a exploratory process of physical and digital manipulation to the primary image. Applying collage, painting, drawing and then concealing a definition of the image through the use of translucent substrates. The process produces undulating and unpredictable results that construct an interference of light and shadow, concealing and revealing elements of the space.
Over the last few years, Zoltan has concentrated on the photopolymer process, which has furthered his awareness with the capabilities that this printmaking process brings. This engagement has developed into multiple plate prints that allows for further experimentation.
Zoltan is a London born and has spent a large part of his working life in the creative industries as a designer and illustrator.
