Janet Sang is an artist based in Brighton, where she makes prints at Volcanic Editions. She is a member of the Printmakers Council and an Associate member of the RE. In her complex screenprints she combines imagery from hand-drawn, photographic and digitally – mediated sources, and enjoys the scope the medium offers for putting together the unexpected and for revealing systems of representation. In her monoprints she has developed a technique of combining etched imagery with painting on the plate, which enables her to respond more immediately to current issues and events. Her recent compositions create allegorical settings which invite a multi-faceted engagement with housing inequalities, attitudes to work and unemployment, the treatment of migrants and to the economic structures underlying social injustice.
